Emergency Management

Most emergencies or disasters are handled at the local level without state or federal assistance and, although the Meriwether County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is best known for its severe weather assistance and preparedness programs, emergency management is so much more. 

Responsibilities

An emergency management program:

• Examines potential emergencies and disasters based on the risks posed by likely hazards
• Develops and implements programs aimed toward reducing the impact of these events on the community
• Prepares for those risks that cannot be eliminated
• Prescribes the actions required to deal with the consequences and the recovery from those events when they occur

Department Mission

The mission of the Meriwether County EMA is to serve the residents of Meriwether County through effective planning to minimize the effects of all disasters. EMA manages and coordinates efforts toward a rapid recovery from disasters and is committed to effective actions to prevent the disasters we can and to reduce the impact of those over which we have no control.
