[ARCHIVED] Warming Shelter To Open in Meriwether County

warming shelter

Due to the potential for deadly subfreezing temperatures, Meriwether County leaders have found the need to open a warming shelter for those residents that have been displaced due to loss of power or without heat.

In cooperation with the City of Woodbury Meriwether County will begin sheltering those in need of a warm place to survive the subfreezing temperatures at 6:00 PM tonight Thursday December 22nd thru Monday December 26th at the Woodbury Community Building located at 56 Flat Shoals Rd in Woodbury next to the tennis courts. The American Red Cross will also be functioning in a supportive role to assist. Cots and blankets will be provided but are limited and will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. Security will be handled by Woodbury Police Department.

Although we will be taking in residents throughout the night as needed, doors will be locked at 10:00 PM and anyone leaving will not be permitted to return until the following day after 8:00 AM.
There is to be no alcohol or drugs permitted on the property.

Accommodations for pets is available but limited at a nearby off site location.
