On April 27th, 2020 our Narcotics Division received information related to a complaint of animal cruelty at a location in the 600 block of Marble Rd, Gay, Georgia. Our narcotics agents contacted Meriwether County Animal Control in regard to the information received. During the course of the investigation numerous dogs were located at the residence that were in a malnourished neglected state along with other items indicative of dog breeding. Our personnel along with animal control located 19 pit bull terriers chained up on the property. Our investigators in our criminal investigation division executed a search warrant at the location and gathered evidence and statements related to this case. Due to the number of dogs at the location Troup County Animal Control responded to the scene to assist with the housing and medical care of these canines. A suspect was developed related to this case investigation. Our investigators obtained an arrest warrant for a Korca Stephone Johnson, B/M, 34 years of age, of Gay, Ga. On April 30, 2020 Korca Stephone Johnson turned himself into our investigators at the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office on the outstanding warrants for his arrest. Johnson was booked into the Meriwether County Jail on one count of Felony Animal Cruelty and eighteen counts of Misdemeanor Animal Cruelty. Johnson has since posted a $97,500.00 that was set by the court.” Sheriff Chuck Smith said.
