“Our community garden produced one of our most bountiful harvest this year. The rainfall along with our watering efforts paid off significantly. We are grateful for that due to the circumstances that many are facing right now. We have grown a community garden for many years to provide produce to our area senior centers. Thus far we have been able to deliver more than 30 grocery paper bags worth of vegetables to our senior centers and other persons in need within our community. We were able to get some Bonnie Plants donated along with some seeds to plant this year. The garden consisted of squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, corn, and cantaloupe. Unfortunately, the deer ate most of our okra plants this year.  My Chief Deputy Byron Hadley has worked this garden from planting till harvest. He tells me that we will have probably one more harvest and then we will plant our fall crop. This too will be given to our area senior centers and those that we know are in need. We have been and will continue to be involved in our community in various ways to help our senior citizens and our youth. Serving our community with our community partners and volunteers helps to make Meriwether a great place to call home.” Sheriff Chuck Smith said.garden 4
