“On August 8, 2020 the 
Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office along with many community partners participated in the annual “Champions of Children Back to School Bash” for our area school children. The bashes were held at Manchester High and Greenville High Schools simultaneously. With the uncertain times in which we now live the bash was able to be held this year due to several dedicated people within our community who work diligently to serve our youth. These people coordinate and dedicate their time and resources to make things happen. With the assistance of community volunteers everyone pulled together to make this a safe and successful event. It is commendable that so many churches, civic groups, sponsors, and dedicated volunteers work together to assist our area youth. The date that the events were held is just a small part of the time and effort that it takes to pull these events off. There are months of planning and gathering of resources that these dedicated people put forth to make these events possible. We are glad that we get to play a part in these events year after year and plan to continue. I greatly appreciate all the effort of these dedicated volunteers and support groups that do so much for our community, especially our youth.” Sheriff Chuck Smith said.
“As most of you know our area school age children are back at school either in physical or remote attendance. Keeping that in mind I want to encourage that we all remain mindful of that in our travels on the roadways. Buses will be picking and dropping kids off, parents will be doing the same with the car riders, our deputies and school resource officers will be handling traffic control. We want everyone to remain safe in their travels and we wish all our students, teachers, cafeteria workers, custodians, school resource officers and those who work in the education field a successful school year. It will be challenging but I know each of you are up for the task.” Sheriff Smith advised.
