Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith reported that his agency recently made numerous recent arrest related to the offenses of Theft by Taking, Aggravated Assault, Stalking, Reckless Conduct, V.G.C.S.A. and Weapon related offenses.
“On September 8, 2020, the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office began conducting an investigation into a reported theft by taking that occurred in the 700 block of Forrest Road, Luthersville, Georgia. Through the course of the investigation a suspect was developed. The suspect was identified as Theodore Wilfield Schmitt, W/M, 29 years of age of Newnan, Georgia. Our investigators were able to recover all items stolen in this incident, valued in excess of $600.00. We obtained arrest warrants for Schmitt for the offenses of Theft by Taking. On September 23, 2020 Theodore Wilfield Schmitt was arrested by the Heard County Sheriff’s Office, Heard County, Ga. on their charges of Theft by Receiving Stolen Property and Burglary. Theodore Wilfield Schmitt is currently being held in Heard County Jail. Upon his release he will be transported to the Meriwether County Jail related to our charges.
On September 13, 2020, around 3:00 p.m. our patrol deputies responded to the area of Floyd Miles Road, Warm Springs, Ga. in reference to a shots fired call. Our investigators responded to the scene for the follow up investigation. Upon arriving on scene our investigators began processing the scene for evidence, interviewing the victims and witnesses. The alleged shooter had fled the scene on foot after shots were fired at a residence. After gathering additional evidence units began executing search warrants and uncovered several other pertinent pieces of evidence in this incident. The suspect in this matter was identified as Starvose Unricky Amey, B/M, 27 years of age, last known address was in Lutherville, Ga. Investigators learned that Starvose Amey had fled Meriwether County, and had connections to a location in LaGrange, Ga. Arrest warrants were issued in this case. We coordinated with the LaGrange Police Department and the U.S. Marshal’s Service for assistance in locating Amey related to our outstanding warrants. On September 17, 2020 Amey was arrested at a location in LaGrange by the U.S. Marshals and LaGrange Police Department. Starvose Amey was transported back to the Meriwether County Jail and has been charged with (1) count of Aggravated Assault, (5) counts of Reckless Conduct, (1) count of Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, (1) count of Unlawful discharge of a Firearm during or on a Public Roadway, (1) count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and (3) counts of Probation Violation. Starvose Amey is currently being held in the Meriwether County Jail without bond.
On September 17, 2020, in the morning hours, the Meriwether County Sheriffs’ Office received a call-in reference to a stalking and assault that occurred in the 20000 block of Roosevelt Highway, Luthersville, Georgia. Investigators met with the victim and begin conducting an investigation into the allegations made. After several witness where interviewed along with the execution of a search warrant an arrest was made. Ronald Aaron Moore, W/M, 36 years of age, Luthersville, Ga. was arrested at his residence and transported to the Meriwether County Jail. Ronald Aaron Moore has been charged with the offenses of Stalking, Reckless Conduct, and Aggravated Assault. Moore is currently held at the Meriwether County Jail without bond.
On September 22, 2020, the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office received several complaints of illegal activity that was reportedly occurring at a residence located on Richard Smith Road, Warm Springs, Ga. Our investigators along with State Probation Officers conducted a probation search of a probationer identified as James Robert Gunder, W/M, 34 yoa, of Warm Springs, Ga. During the search our investigators recovered approximately 11.5 grams of Methamphetamines and drug related objects. James Gunder was present during this search and was taken into custody and transported to the Meriwether County Jail. James Gunder was charged with the offense of V.G.C.S.A. Possession of Methamphetamines. Gunder posted a $7,500 dollar bond.
On September 26, 2020, our patrol deputies responded to a call in reference to a suspicious vehicle located in the 2700 block of Highway 85, Manchester, Ga. Upon arrival on the scene our deputies located the vehicle that was reported. It was in the process of leaving the premises with a panel trailer. The subject driving the vehicle was identified as Robert Lee Collett, W/M, 48 yoa, of Griffin, Georgia. The property owner had not given Collett permission to be on the property nor take the trailer. Our Investigators responded to the scene and began processing the scene for additional evidence along with conducting interviews with the property owner and witnesses. Robert Collett was arrested for the offenses of (Felony) Theft by Taking and Criminal Trespass. Robert Collett was transported to the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Jail and has since posted a $9,500 dollar bond.” Sheriff Chuck Smith said.
“I appreciate the work that our personnel have done related to these case investigations. I also appreciate the assistance provided by the U.S. Marshal’s Service along with the LaGrange Police Department.” Sheriff Smith advised.
